EDITION #1 - Sunday, October 20th, 2002
- That's right. Yours truly has a column on the official IBW website. At first, I wasn't too crazy about the idea of a column being on backyard wrestling federation website. I didn't really think it would go over too well until I thought about something. This could really be a good way to get MY opinions heard rather than just keeping it to myself and having to read the feedback on our message board.
What will I be talking about in this column every week? I will be taking mostly about IBW related things (such as shows, etc) and any eye-catching backyard wrestling federations that I feel the need to mention.
If you are still reading this, you have chose not to hit that magical "X" symbol in the right hand corner of your monitor. Thanks.
IBW CORRUPTION Thoughts from October 13th:Yes, it took us a while (more like 1 month and 3 weeks) but we finally taped a show. We didn't mean to have a such a long gap in between our previous taping but with school/college starting for most of us,
scheduling a time and day where we could all get together became harder than we originally thought. Not everyone on the IBW roster was present at the taping on October 13th but we managed to pull of a show. Speaking of the show, we must apologize for the entranceway. We were rather hurried doing the taping and the entranceway was far from our minds once everyone got together. True, it wasn't horrible but it obviously wasn't to our standards and we apologize for that once again. We will make up for it at the IBW Double Crossed PPV taping next Sunday, October 27th with a much more impressive setup.
Back to the thoughts on the show.
With this being our fourth event, I thought we did a pretty good job. Presentation wise, I thought we could of done better but we were rushed so we should be thankful we even got to do a show. I was very impressed with a lot of the guys on the roster, pulling off great matches despite little preparation. I thought we could of done a better job telling stories, especially going into our first ever Pay Per View event next Sunday. But hey, you can't always do everything perfect. I was very happy with my match with Jordan "The Titan" Stamy. The Titan really proved to the guys in the back that he can "wrestle" with the best of them, despite not
being the focal point of the past IBW events. It's a shame The Staminator had to stick his nose in my business again, allowing The Titan to get the 1, 2, 3 on yours truly.
The match between Philip Flawless and Tommy Hill was also great. This was the first meeting between the two since the Elimination Battle Royal back in June. Tommy Hill has continued to impress me over the weeks, pulling off huge moves on guys twice his size. I was also very impressed with Philip Flawless as well. Just when you think he is out, he comes back with even more power.
I am really interested to see where his character goes come Double Crossed as he provided us with a short hint at the end of the show.
The Staminator continued to lengthen his reign as IBW Heavyweight Champion, defending it for the third time and coming away with yet another win. Despite his cocky attitude on camera, he really strives to make all of his matches memorable and keep them fresh and exciting. It will be fun to get in the ring with The Staminator for the first time since June at Double Crossed next Sunday.
IBW Double Crossed - next Sunday, October 27th:I am getting really excited (no, not that kind of excited)
about the IBW's first ever Pay Per View event, Double Crossed, next Sunday on October 27th. This is by far our biggest card yet and our goal is to make this the best show we have put on since returning in June of 2002. We have made changes each week and I am confident we will be taking the IBW to the next level with this show.
This is the first time we will be providing both more than 3 matches at an event plus, both the IBW Heavyweight and Midwest Title's will be on the line in the Main Event against the winner of the semi-finals and finals competition. Who will it be that advances? Well, you can't really pinpoint who will go the distance. Anyone on the
roster could easily advance. "Hot Property" Wyatt Blackford has received more IBW Heavyweight Title shots than anyone in the competition, giving him much more experience in title match situations. Philip Flawless hinted at a new character change on CORRUPTION, could this help him advance to the Main Event? Tommy Hill is the only person in the IBW to get both an IBW Heavyweight and Midwest title shot. It could really elevate his status in the IBW if he advances. Jordan "The Titan" Stamy does hold a victory of yours truly, BUT he didn't come away with the Midwest Title as he previously thought. Will his mind set be on the Midwest or Heavyweight Title come next Sunday?
Then, after the semi-finals and finals matches get done, we still have the Main Event left to go where The Staminator's IBW Heavyweight Title and my IBW Midwest Title will be on the line! This is the first time in IBW history a champion vs. champion match will take place. We could easily see The Staminator or myself walk away a double champion. We could also see the person who advances to the Main Event walk away with IBW gold, that being the Heavyweight or Midwest title.
If I could go on this long talking about the matches, just imagine how big this show really will be! Make sure you see to it that on Sunday, October 27th you check out the
official IBW website at intensebw.8m.com (as if you didn't know already) to see the full results/pictures from this show. It will be worth it!
Quick/Random Thoughts from The Marty:- Isn't it funny that for some odd reason we never manage to get a picture of Commissioner Schultze at the tapings? Hmmmmmm
- I hear a "certain" IBW wrestler is sick of losing every IBW taping and could possibly pull a Stone Cold Steve Austin if things don't improve in the winning department.
- Be sure to check out the Backyard Wrestling News website at http://bywn.zorro2.com.
Gotta love the IBW coverage we are getting on the site. I just wish they would update their other sections.
- Don't forget to check out the local Cedar Rapids, Iowa website Stung! (www.dvhb.com). Dejah Vu, the owner of the site, set us up with a nice message board which you guys should check out by clicking here. Don't forget about our own message board though, with the link under OTHER FEATURES to the right.
- I hear ShebWF (www.shebwf.com) is coming back after a long absense.
After watching two of their online shows, I am hooked as a fan of the promotion and I can't wait until the next show goes online.
- Speaking of ShebWF, Junkman over at Backyard Wrestling News posted a quick column about why he thinks the ShebWF is unoriginal. It's a funny read and you can read it by clicking here.
- One last ShebWF mention, I hear that current IBW Heavyweight Champion The Staminator isn't the biggest Austin Penn fan. I smell a feud!
Final Thoughts:I hope you enjoyed the first edition of From The Inside w/ Marty Matthews. I hope to put out a column every week so stay
tuned to this page or the front page of the IBW, which is frequently updated might I add.
Other than that, be sure to check us out thoughtout this week and especially next Sunday, October 27th for results/pictures from the IBW's first ever Pay Per View event, IBW Double Crossed.
